A beautiful, hand-carved container from Brienz, Switzerland, circa 1900, attributed to Pierre Michel.
This artistically crafted object is a testament to the famous Brienz carving tradition, which gained international recognition in the 19th century. The vessel was crafted from wood with great care and a keen sense of form and detail and richly decorated – typical characteristics of Brienz woodcarving, which is prized for its precise craftsmanship and naturalistic representation.
The container has a warm, aged patina that beautifully underscores its authenticity and age. Despite slight damage, which leaves the piece with its historical character, it is in beautiful, collectible condition overall.
A charming example of Swiss folk art from the turn of the century – masterfully crafted, with cultural and decorative value.
