Paris Meets Basel
An apartment as a stage for design history
In the heart of Basel, a design-savvy collector – a native of Paris – has, with our support, curated his personal world. In his adopted home, he combines French elegance with Swiss clarity, creating a distinctive atmosphere.
At the heart of the curation is an exquisite collection of furniture by Dieter Wäckerlin. Its uncompromising reduction and precisely balanced proportions act like architectural elements, giving the rooms structure and presence.
However, the stage does not belong to Wäckerlin alone: furniture and objects from different eras – from Art Deco to Italian Radical Design of the 1970s – engage in dialogue, contrasting and complementing each other.
The materiality is particularly striking: dark wood and cool stone floors, heavy velvet curtains that filter the light and give the rooms an almost theatrical tension. Mirrors and lamps from various decades set targeted accents and constantly open up new perspectives.
Spaces with structure and character
That this composition remains vibrant and doesn't become rigid with museality is thanks to Okay Art's fine curatorial sensibility. Together with the resident, they succeeded in translating a collection into spaces – not as a static arrangement, but as an organic whole.
Manifesto for Design
The result is an apartment that is both a sanctuary and a manifestation of a life dedicated to design: a space where Basel and Paris, tradition and avant-garde, furniture and architecture enter into an inspiring dialogue.
