A true Swiss design classic from the 1950s — the so-called “Fireplace Chair” designed by the Zurich interior architect and designer Felix Stöckli.
The chair is distinguished by its elegant yet highly functional design. Most characteristic is the elongated backrest, conceived not only as a striking visual element but also as a practical handle, allowing the chair to be easily carried and repositioned near the fireplace or throughout an interior. This thoughtful balance of functionality, refined proportions, and understated elegance makes the piece an outstanding example of post-war Swiss design.
The original versions were upholstered in Stamoid, an innovative polyester fabric developed in the 1950s by Stamm & Co in Eglisau. At the time, the material was considered exceptionally modern and durable, reflecting the era’s fascination with new industrial textiles and materials.
This example has been newly upholstered in a beautiful yellow velvet fabric from France — a refined cotton-polyester blend with a soft and vibrant texture that elegantly enhances the chair’s sculptural silhouette. The wooden frame and black lacquered finish show light, age-related wear, adding an authentic vintage patina and further character to the piece.
An exceptional vintage object with strong presence and beautifully preserved originality — rare, functional, and timelessly elegant.
