Campo Piano Orezza, wicker basket with handle, France, 60s

This extraordinary large bowl with side handles was handcrafted in Corsica in the 60s. Crafted from glazed terracotta, the bowl is characterized by its warm, chestnut-brown base color, which is interspersed with vibrant orange accents and irregular glaze marks. The intentionally rustic surface treatment and the small imperfections of the artisanal production give the piece its individual, almost archaic character. On the underside is the signature "Campo Piano Orezza," indicating its origin from the Corsican region of Orezza. The sturdy handles and the simple, functional shape give the vessel a sculptural presence, making it equally interesting as a decorative bowl, fruit basket, or centerpiece. An expressive, unique piece of Corsican studio pottery, whose earthy materiality and primal design language harmonize perfectly with the aesthetics of Mid-Century, Brutalism, and Wabi-Sabi.
