D. R. Bates and Jackson Gregory, table lamp, America, 1950s

Rare mid-century table lamp from the 50s, designed by D. R. Bates and Jackson Gregory. The lamp is a characteristic example of American post-war design, combining organic forms with the delicate lightness of early space-age design. The striking, organically shaped ceramic body in a warm yellow-orange tone forms the centerpiece of the lamp. It is supported by a finely crafted tubular steel frame, which creates an exciting contrast to the voluminous ceramic body through its minimalist construction. Beneath the large, drum-shaped shade, the delicate metal construction continues, giving the lamp its characteristic sculptural appearance. The lamp has been carefully technically restored and is rewired, equipped with a new socket as well as a new reflector and shade. It thus combines the authentic character of a vintage original with contemporary technical features.
