Royal Copenhagen, Gerd Bøgelund, vase, Denmark, 1950s

This exceptional stoneware vase by Gerd Bøgelund for Royal Copenhagen was created in Denmark in the 1950s. Particularly appealing is the vibrantly speckled glaze, whose nuanced surface gives the vessel remarkable depth and an individual, almost painterly character. The balanced design and subtle variation in the glaze reflect the high-quality craftsmanship of Danish ceramic art of the period. The vase is in excellent condition and is signed with the monogram "GB" as well as the characteristic three wavy lines of Royal Copenhagen. Gerd Bøgelund (1923–1987) was a Danish ceramicist whose work is characterized by organic forms and a special sensitivity for material, glaze, and surface effect. She worked for Saxbo, Søholm, and Royal Copenhagen, among others. In 1957, she was awarded for her ceramic work at the Milan Triennale.
