This distinctive ceramic carafe was made in the 1970s by renowned Swiss ceramicist Arnold Zahner in his workshop in Rheinfelden. Zahner, born in Basel in 1919 and deceased in 2005, headed the traditional Rheinfelder Keramik and had a significant influence on Swiss studio ceramics with his work. The huge carafe is characterised by its striking bulbous shape, which, in combination with the vibrant glaze in shades of yellow and blue, creates a harmonious and expressive aesthetic. This colour scheme is typical of Zahner's work from this period and underlines his experimental approach to glazes and shapes. The piece bears the characteristic ‘Rheinfelden’ signature on the bottom, confirming its authenticity and origin. The carafe is in very good vintage condition and shows only slight signs of age-related wear, which underline its authentic character. An outstanding example of Swiss studio ceramics from the 1970s, which is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
