The Leerdam glass factory, founded in 1765, later characterized by the patronage of Architecs Hendrik Petrus Berlage, Karel Petrus Cornelis and famous American Frank Lloyd Wright.
The designer Floris Meydam (1919-2011) from Leerdam started in 1935 in the glass manufactury as an employee in the Design Department. In 1949 he became their director. At the World Exhibition of Brussels in 1958, the Leerdam pavilion received the Grand Prize.
From the mid 1950s, Meydam also designed for the "Unica" series, which had already been started by the company in 1922 and only made one of a kind pieces.
This specific piece was produced by the designer himself in close cooperation with experienced glass blowers. It bears the "Leerdam Unica f Meydam" sign that is engraved with a needle. It underlines the amazing modernity of the glass art of the Netherlands. Top condition.
