Standing male Boyo figure from the Congo, likely from the 1930s, carved from dark patinated hardwood. The compactly rendered figure is characterized by a disproportionately large, elongated head with highly abstracted facial features. Almond-shaped eyes, a long, narrow nose, and a minimalist mouth give the face an intense expression. The angled arms are held close to the body, with the hands resting at the sides of the lower abdomen. The dark brown surface displays a pronounced, naturally developed patina of age and use, with partial traces of wear and encrustations that underscore the figure's original character. An expressive example of Central African wood carving from the first half of the 20th century.
