Inkombi chest of drawers, designed by Max Ernst Haefeli and Walter Custer for Wohnbedarf AG, Zurich, 1933. The chest of drawers is part of the early Swiss “Inkombi” modular furniture line, whose name derives from the furniture’s internal modularity. The functional design allowed for flexible use and combination of various elements. Characteristic features include the clean, functional design language and the use of light-colored veneered wood elements, which defined modern Swiss furniture design of the 30s. The Inkombi series is considered an early example of mass-produced, functional Swiss design and exemplifies Wohnbedarf AG’s efforts to develop contemporary and affordable furniture for modern living. The name “Inkombi” is attributed to László Moholy-Nagy. In very good original condition.
