Original lithograph by Peter Birkhäuser (Switzerland, 1900–1944). This original lithograph by Swiss graphic artist Peter Birkhäuser was created between 1900 and 1944. It is framed in oak with museum glass and served as the template for a later poster print by the renowned Wassermann AG, Basel. The motif advertises stockings in a stylised, illustrative visual language typical of the time. At the bottom right is a handwritten note ‘X Auflage’ in coloured pencil, presumably written by the lithographer himself. An outstanding example of Swiss advertising graphics and visual culture of the post-war period, which impresses both with its design quality and its historical significance.
